Delicioulsy retro C60 wallpaper now at BODIE and FOU

Have you seen the new C60 wallpaper we added to the site on Friday?? It's one of the new designs by Mini Moderns. I love it because it features hand-drawn cassettes...yes cassettes...Do you remember when we were recording music on cassettes to listen to them on our Walkman!?
My Dad used to record radio programs on cassettes and he made some great compil's...
When I think about Mila, 5 years old who already knows how to skype her cousin in Paris, watches movies on our Mac and knew how to use the touch-pad mouse of the computer instinctively, I think I may have a bit of a difficult time to explain to her that her mum (errm...old) used to listen to music on cassettes when she was young :-)

But I really love the retro appeal of this wallpaper. The C60 wallpaper is available in white and in chalkboard/gold and the great thing about the white version is that you can customize it or get the kids to do it and make it very personal and at £38 a roll, I think it's a great way to create a feature wall in a small room.

School map

A vintage school map (or from here), a RAR rocking chair, a Jielde lamp and a pretty garland....et voila....que du bon, que du beau

Our Hippie (happy) weekend on the Isle of Wight

We had the most wonderful weekend at Vintage Vacations and I'm hoping these few photos will give a feel of how wonderful, free and relax our weekend was on the Isle of Wight and will also inspire you to spend a fabulous weekend there with friends and family....
For us, the experience was AWESOME, incredibly chilled out and has given us lots of happy memories to take back to London!
I loved how Helen leaves scones, cream and jam for her guests in each Airstream. I also really loved that you can buy local products (jams with delightful, old-fashioned labels, Apple juices, fresh loafs of bread, eggs and bacon) and leave the money in a Honesty box .
I was totally seduced by the little 'shop in a hut' Helen put together to sell vintage knick-knack and clothes and the wonderful, creative comments and drawings previous guests left in each Airstream....
This weekend was truly wonderful.....

Vintage pendant light by Katheen Hills

Yesterday, I was saying how much I love Kathleen Hills' work so here is another reason why I think she is very talented....She sourced vintage lamp shades and gave them a contemporary twist by adding her trademarks style ....beautiful parts in bone china and twisted flex.
I think the result is a beautiful almost romantic pendant light that will add lightness and style to a bedroom or bathroom.

The trim phone - cool retro design from 1970s

Isn't this phone cool? Our sister site WhereDidYouBuyThat.com just received stock and they look fab!

A little bit of history about the Trim Phone - a 1970s Design Classic
Launched by the GPO in 1065 as a fashionable alternative to its regular models, it was in the 1970s that the Trimphome became commonplace. TRIM stands for Tone Ringer Illuminated Model: it was the first phone to ring using a modern electronic warbler rather than the traditional bell mechanism and on the earlier models the dial glowed in the dark. By 1980 there were 1.6 million in use throughout the UK. This replica version has all the style and features of the 1970s original but with modern push button.
Available in 6 colours: green, pink, purple, white, red and turquoise!

Tin Collector series

Do you remember my little post about vintage toy at the beginning of the month? For those who've just joined in, I was just saying that vintage toys have a unique charm to them and from a decoration point-of-view, they just look fab on a shelf.
A couple of years ago, I started a little collection of vintage toys in Mila's bedroom (on a shelf she can't really reach)...well vintage cars actually. I don't know why I'm so attracted to cars but it just happened... some are proper vintage ones picked up in second-hand shops other are just beautiful replicas so imagine how excited I was when I came across the Sunbeam car, the Lilliput robot and this other cutie in blue!!
Err...hello....look how gorgeous there are! I'm super excited....Elodie and I were trying to find some really cool and unusual gifts for men for this Christmas and I think they are just perfect...

The Lilliput robot (below) is acknowledged by collectors to be the World's First Toy Robot. It appeared in Japan in the 40s and was originally manufactured by K.T. Japan. This little yellow cutie is thought to be the first mass-produced robot toy and marked the start of a long line of tin robots.

And the Sunbeam car is a replica of the car that holds the world's speed record...200 miles per hour. Well obviously this is a few years back and I'm still trying to work out the exact year but if you know this, feel free to let me know.
They will all be available in September but of course you can pre-order them now if you wish.

Found in the street this morning...

I went for a run this morning at 6am and on my way back home, I spotted something which I thought was a foldable stool but when I opened, it turned out to be better than I thought!
It was a little deckchair for children...

I know....if you're not into vintage, this is hardly going to rock your boat but those in the know will appreciate my street find :-)
It doesn't look very fresh right now or clean....but a bit of TLC and a new fabric and it will be perfect for Mila who has decided she wants it white and yellow.

Have you ever find something in the street that made your day? What was it? What did you do with it? Feel free to send us some before and after photos...

The White House Daylesford...

Hello again :) I know it's been ages since my last blog I sincerely apologise for that. I hope you're all well :) I've moved house and I'm currently busy renovating and decorating my new bedroom. I'll post pics when I'm finished if it turns out how I picture it in my mind hehe. The look I am trying to achieve is inspired from Claudia Strasser's The Paris Apartment book. Needlessly to say I am going to town with the girly goodness! ;)

The reason for this blog is I received my copy of the july/august issue of Vogue Living and I was so thrilled to finally see the stunning weekend cottage of one of my favourite designers, Mz Lyn Gardener.

6 months ago, after featuring her gorgeous home and vintage store, Empire Vintage in Melbourne, I received an unexpected, lovely email from Mz Gardener telling me the exciting news of her new country cottage she was renovating at the time.

This cosy weekender is very different from her girly chic warehouse apartment I'm sure you're all familiar with and adore as much as I do, but equally as beautiful. Mz Gardener has successfully catered for both sexes by going for a more industrial vintage look. Most of the items were purchased either at flea markets or salvage stores.
The library has one wall covered in a handpainted wallpaper by Deborah Browness, depicting rows of books. A very clever use of a small space.

I especially love the kitchen with it's open timber shelves and blackboard wall.

No Gardener home would be complete without her signature clawfoot bath :)

Simple but very enticing. I love those white shutters!

An old garden shed was converted to seperate guest room.
I absolutely love it! It's the perfect mix of city meets country and old meets new. I'll definitely be adding The White House Daylesford to my list of places to stay. Thank you Lyn for creating such a treasure for us to enjoy :)
For more information on the renovation and beautiful pics you can visit Mz Gardener's website or buy the July/August issue of Australian Vogue Living magazine.

Vintage Birthday Party Pictures

I still can't get enough vintage style.....part 1 the bedroom...

I forever struggle with trying to define my own personal style. I try to follow the rules with one but then add something completely different to the look. I guess you could say I'm more of an eclectic kind of gal, but one element will forever remain in my interiors and thats my love of all things vintage.
I gave myself a break from flea market shopping these holidays as my home is simply busting at the seams, but I feel the pulling sensation to get back out there and start rummaging again so I know I will cave very soon lol.
I have however decided to de-clutter alot of my "pretty things" and create something a little more industrial. One of my favourite books in my collection is called Found Style by David and Amy Bulter. If you have a passion for all things vintage and recycled but without too much of the the feminine aspect then this book is for you!
Don't get me wrong I'm still a girly girl and regularly read my Austen novels but I just think I'm going to minimalise my "granny items" and go for a more boho feminine chic look this year.
Does this happen to you? Each year do your tastes change and you feel like you want to rip it all out and start fresh? God help me this could become a costly obsession LOL ;)
