White bookshelf wallpaper by Y & B

Last September, we launched the 'ridiculously fab' Bookshelf wallpaper by Y & B and you can see here how you can transform a plain room into something amazing and striking! In the US, Nema workshop also revamped an Espresso cafe in Manhattan. The launch of the Bookshelf wallpaper has been a major success and on the back of it, Y & B have now decided to launch a white version that I love! While the colour printed one gives an Old England feel to a room, the white version has a Maison Martin Margiela vibe that I love very much!
The white Bookshelf wallpaper will be available mid-January 2011 from BODIE and FOU

Designer spotlight: Caroline Swift

Time for a little creative break before I become insane...I wanted to share with your the work of Caroline Swift spotted here because I love her beautiful and delicate ceramics. Her collection is really a reflection of her personal approach to design. Slow design where beautiful things are handmade but not rushed and it's refreshing, beautiful and inspired by nature. Each piece is unique which makes time spent on it very special. So...What's your verdict? Aren't they pretty and stylish?

Kelly Hoppen's blog...

I ran 8kms early this am so already today I was feeling pretty much on top of the world but when world-renowned British Designer Kelly Hoppen suggested her followers on Twitter to follow us, it was just the cherry on the top of a very happy Friday cake!

I have a couple of books from her at home: In Touch and Style but I really would like Home which explores the entire process of creating a home that meets our needs. Kelly Hoppen has pioneered a simple yet opulent style that is stylish yet real. The kind of living space that makes you feel at home, at peace and thanks God she has now started a blog.
I can't wait to read more and I hope she will share with us more insights about her path, her career and her drive like she did here in this post about success. Enjoy!

House Tour: Solenne de La Fourchardiere

I love when this kind of chance encounter over the net happens...
It all started with an email from Julia who wrote to tell us that she was going there every day to get her daily fix of La Tropezienne tote bag and that she has been saving since the first time she spotted it in December 2009. I waited for this bag too so I know how it feels/aches to crave for it when you just know that is going to be simply perfect for you!
I suggested Julia to go there where she could get 10% OFF which may help towards her saving plan and it did. Then Julia told me that her boss (also French) read our profile and said she could have written it herself... Now the funny thing is that Julia's boss is Solenne de La Fouchardiere, one of the three talented designers behind Ochre (the other two being Joanna Bibby and Harriet Maxwell Macdonald), a UK Interior Design company which I have long admired. So thanks to Julia, here are some nice images of the gorgeous loft Solange de Fouchardière owns in East London (Shoreditch).

I'm very envious...Before embarking on a committed and happy relationship (with me!), Steve lived in a couple of great lofts first in commercial street (opposite Spitafields market) then next to Borough market and I've always longed to live in loft-type spaces except that when it came to having a family, West London seemed more school/family friendly than East London so I let this little bit of dream go (temporarily...walls are going to come down in our home!).
What about you? Did you ever dream to live in a special place when you were single and had to let go of the dream when you started a family (for the best of course!)?

PS: Special thanks to Julia for sending me these beautiful images..
PS2: and may I add too (because I'm super excited about it!) that we are also going to work with Andrew Corrie, Harriet Maxwell Macdonald's husband and this will involve their NY venture...oh oui!

Rob Ryan" "You can still do a lot with a small brain" b

I haven't been very active on the Blog side this week but the shop has been so busy with the sale of these on top of everything else that I'm totally dead. We sold 5 of these gorgeous lights this month, along with 10 of this beautiful Ball chair, and god knows how many prints and angel babygros...blablabla
So here is one last post before the weekend because I have been waiting for this book to arrive for a long time and I'm SO NOT disappointed by its content!!
I'm sure (creative as you are) you all know who Rob Ryan is but if you don't, you must check out his wonderful blog or even better, pay a visit this Sunday to his fabulous shop on Columbia Road (if you've never been to Columbia Road, gosh you must, you must, you must!!). Rob Ryan's intricate paper cuts often reveals whimsical stories and poetic expressions, creating a universe that is delicate in both form and theme.
I've always been a fan of Mr Rob's talent, patience and skills and this new book called "You can still do a lot with a small brain" is a great celebration of his work, imaginative paper cuts ad screen prints. The book has been published to accompany Rob Ryan's exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park that sadly ended last February but if you've missed the exhibition and loves his work, then you will love this book. I have taken a few pics of the inside to show you what it looks like but it has many wonderful examples of his screen prints and paper cuts.

I'm going to send one to Mila's Godmother who LOVES Rob Ryan so she can find it when she is back from her camping weekend...
I wish you a wonderful weekend. Bises

Celia Birtwell collection

Muse of David Hockney and Sixties fashion legend Ossie Clarke, Celia Birtwell is one of the most influential textiles designers of her generation. She has been described as the face that launched a thousand prints and her contribution to the world of interiors has been phenomenal. Celia first started a textiles design course in 1956 at Salford School of Art then she moved to Notting Hill in 1961, lived in some colourful establishment (I like the euphemism from her bio :-), socialising with the swinging sixties bohemian crowd but it's not until she started designing for Ossie Clak in 1965 that she gained international critical acclaim as a textiles designer. While Ossie lived the rock'n roll life, Celia drew her inspiration from a more romantic and classical world such as Vita Sackville-West's Garden, Leon Bakst's costumes for the Ballets Russes, Picasso and Matisse.
Recently, one of her designs: 'Pretty Woman' has been re-edited in a range of beautiful gifts for women and I'm super excited to have these on our sister site because I think they will make wonderful gifts for my mother-in-law who is her keen gardener. She has one wonderful garden in New-Zealand and I'm always very admirative how everything looks so beautiful and green!
I wish I had green fingers....I've just managed to keep alive the beautiful orchid my brother and his girlfriend Julie gave me for my birthday last March and then my mum arrived and thought it was a fake one....it shows how much faith she has in my gardening skills!
I really like the Celia Birtwell range. It's so pretty and feminine and I wouldn't mind getting hold of the metal tin that comes with the Celia Birtwell Kitchen Drawer Kit, look at this! Isn't it gorgeous??? I can feel a collection of metal boxes coming along. I saw someone displaying lots of metal tins to store tea bags in their kitchen in one of the Kitchen books from Paumes and it looked terrific! Anyway I hope you like the range too!

Brendan & Vanessa
Originally trained in industrial product design, Young and Battaglia have expanded their portfolio to include interiors, gardens and graphics as well as home accessories and ceramics for clients including Next Home and John Lewis (how pretty is this Lotus candle holder they designed for John Lewis?!).

Lotus candle holder for John Lewis

Heralded as one of the top 10 design studios of the future at 100% Design London's 10th anniversary, Studiomold has won a host of awards and attained a reputation for creative vision through a presence in many exhibitions worldwide including New York, Milan, Tokyo, Paris and London. Their work has also been published in books, most leading design magazines, and selected for prestigious shows and collections such as the V&A and the MOMA.

Our favourite design is the Lotus lampshade in black here or cream here, which was shortlisted for the Elle Decoration Awards.

The Lotus folding lampshade is made from one sheet of fabric and was inspired by the Japanese art of origami, the shade forms and supports its own shape without the need for a rigid support frame.
The other very noticeable and striking lighting design is the Spaghetti Princess Chandelierin black here)
Spaghetti Princess Chandelier by Brendan Young

Designed by Brendan Young, the inspiration for the Spaghetti Princess Chandelier came from the beautiful chandeliers of the 17th century. Young tried to capture an essence of their silhouette and continuous movement using the electric flex itself. By drooping and looping the cables through a transparent disc of plexiglas the cables themselves give it form.

Dwarf Wired lamp

If you remember last month, I mentioned this uber cool loft in Holland which had a stunning yellow flower painted on the wall and a beautiful, oversized lamp that really caught my attention... Well after a bit of research, I'm pleased to say that this gorgeous Dwarf wired lamp is now available from BODIE and FOU.

Designed by Mark Irlam, a British Designer who went to study at Falmouth College of Arts, the Dwarf Wired Lamp design came from the process of model making, using wires to 'draw' in 3D rather than using pencil and paper. I love the oversizeness (is there such a word in English?) of this lamp and how it looks striking but not overpowering.
Finding a nice, contemporary table lamp is not an easy task and I think, with its simple, modern lines that come from the wired base and the contrasting colours between the base and the shade, the Dwarf Wired lamp achieves just the right balance at a very affordable price for a table lamp of this size.
Available in White/White here, Green/White here and Yellow/Black here
