Brick House Architecture Goes Ultra-Modern

Brick House Architecture Goes Ultra-Modern

Philadelphia-based Qb Design makes brick house architecture modern. This unusual city home takes a cue from its location – an urban-industrial corner of Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties region. A cool, curved brick exterior wall welcomes passers-by to linger awhile and enjoy the subtle particulars of this urban house design. Inside, this 3,800-sq.-ft., split-level home is cool as can be, featuring an elegant blend of bleached and blackened oak, polished concrete and polished steel within its large open-concept design. A staircase zigzags its way through the home, offering uninterrupted visual and physical access to the home’s various levels. Plenty of windows dot this brick house, flooding interiors with natural light and offering views of the street and the rooftop garden pati

Ultra-contemporary futuristic Luxury Villa

The ultra-contemporary Capital Hill Residence by Zaha Hadid is a modern, private villa of concrete, steel and glass that uses its unique location to carry out this one-of-a-kind, futuristic design. Set on a steep slope in Barvikha, Russia, overlooking the hillside dotted with dachas and lush forest, the architect created a modern layout that would stand out among its surroundings, incorporating a ground-level living area that follows the landscape; and a second volume of space floating 72 ft. in the sky. Inside, the living quarters are divided into a foursome of functional spaces – a basement devoted to leisure and luxury that includes a den, fitness area, massage space and sauna; a ground floor housing the living and dining room, kitchen, indoor swimming pool and integrated parking; the first-floor lobby, library, guest room and bedrooms; and the master bedroom, a lounge and outdoor terrace located on the top level. The Capital Hill luxury villa is due for completion in 2010

A New Concept in Modern Homes

The architects at GAD have put on their creative caps prior to sitting down at the drawing board, and they came up with Andalus. This forward-thinking concept in modern residences experiments with mathematician Stephen Wolfram’s computer program Mathematica to transform traditional house design with fractals. “Andalus uses the cellular automatic principles of ‘Mathematica,’ to generate itself. The process calls for active indeterminate modules that organically emerge, morph and propagate while aligned with a set of programmatic parameters to negotiate formal and spatial results,” according to the architects. This futuristic house, designed for a private client in Libya, features a series of smooth arches that form windows and doorways through its organic-inspired frame. Andalus is just one project of many that GAD is testing with the new technology

Futuristic Home Design

Designed in close collaboration with the clients, Mr. Anton Schouten and Ms. Hannie Kempink, this futuristic, even whimsical, modern residence by Factor Architecture isn’t quite what you’d expect to find in the quaint Beekbergen village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. This uniquely shaped home has a split personality – a contemporary front elevation with a modern roof design. To one side, the house features a large, sculptural face that tapers at the top of the cool white concrete facade. The opposite facade of the house is an extension of its overarching thatched roof, curving its way over the home’s main living area. Interiors are designed with a truly modern, urban flair. The minimalist backdrop is a perfect showcase for the home’s most-wonderful feature: its windows, which have been incorporated in all shapes and sizes, along the walls and dotting the futuristic roof

Modern - futuristic Sustainable Home Design

Modern Sustainable Home Design at Bird Island, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

You might say this zero-energy house in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is for the birds. Designed by the architects of Berlin-based Graft Lab, their modern, sustainable Bird Island design is a striking urban renewal project composed of an eco-friendly bamboo frame wrapped in an sustainably sourced silicone glass fabric which lets the structure sway with the wind, while giving residents a unique and constantly changing bird’s-eye view of the sky. Apart from looking totally cool, this modern tented structure reflects sunlight and prevents heat absorption to interiors, passively keeping living quarters comfortable. A grey-water recycling system allows for eco-conscious water use and reuse. Bird Island was designed as part of the YTL Green Homes Competition, which challenged eight international architects and designers to put their keenest, Greenest ideas into actio

The harmonious architecture and light house

"The harmonious interplay between architecture and light."
On the sparkling harbor of Lake Constance in Switzerland, the awesome illuminated Nordwesthaus building sheds some light on modern architecture. The brainchild of architect Baumschlager Eberle, this cool modern design rises 14 meters out of the water as a glowing glass cube, illuminated by an ever-changing display of LED color sequences that go from green, to blue, yellow, to red before your eyes. LED applications specialist Zumtobel Ledon created the lit display to illustrate the sheer range of options offered by LED technology. Nordwesthaus boasts 125 LED spotlights, expertly arranged along the building exterior, with 12 integrated RGB LEDs per luminaire that allow for a palette of over 16 million colors. The compact luminaires equipped with asymmetrical optics ensure that the organically shaped voids in the concrete walls are lit in all their glory. It’s enough to draw you in. Once inside this contemporary building, the dynamic lighting effect is just as enticing

unique futuristic house

This ultra modern Los Angeles, California loft is everything you'd expect from La-La Land - innovative, check; cool, check; contemporary, check; totally beautiful, double-check. Designed by forward-thinking Tighe Architecture, this chic loft was designed as a creative live-work environment occupying one of downtown L.A.'s existing warehouse buildings. There is a peculiarity about the unique design idea that's hard to describe; a balance, yet a battle is taking place in this 1,400-sq.-ft. space. But as with their design, the architects' description has hit the nail right on the head. "Two distinct entities are evident in the design," according to Tighe Architecture. "The angular geometry of the faceted stone-clad monolith stands in contrast to the free-flowing, organic, elliptical-shaped room. Through these two pieces a dialogue begins to emerge. Harmony and conflict co-exist within the dichotomous dwelling." Described as a "womb-like enclosure," the kitchen is futuristic, yet comforting with its gently sloping walls, which seem to peel away, revealing a bathroom. A raised living area is the workstation by day, and transforms into a luxe lounge by night, ready to entertain residents and guests alike. And last but certainly not least, no modern L.A. home is complete without a spa area, complete with a stylized garden and a floating steel fireplace

Futuristic Home Designs

Australian architects Tony Owen Partners designed Moebius House in Dover Heights, Sydney. Right from its very beginnings, this ultra-modern home design is the future of innovation and technology. According to Tony Owen Partners, the house is “an example of ‘liquid architecture’ whereby projects are designed parametrically using 3-D digital software to respond to environmental issues.” Maximizing natural ventilation, the views and the home’s efficiency, while minimizing its impact on the neighbors are the key criteria of the method. An innovative design process suits the end result – a futuristic style of architecture that seems to flow from the top down in smooth lines and curves. The steel-framed and-clad house cradles vast walls of glass, allowing for panoramic vistas of Sydney Harbour. The window walls open to outdoor entertaining areas, doubling the home’s living space. The sun-soaked interior, like the exterior, has a fluid open-concept layout with a minimalist interior palette and contemporary concrete floors and futuristic features like the suspended fireplace and semi-enclosed staircase
