Mr Mustache by Studio Violet

I know Mila and I are not the only mother and daughter to love anything Camilla Engman and Elisabeth Dunker from Studio Violet do, so I'm sure you will enjoy this little book...
Mila chose the Friends of Violet poster for her bedroom and personnally I really love the colours and designs of the Apple Papple poster and Pirum Parum poster (so cute!). So when Elizabeth told me she had now published Mr Mustache book in English, I got very excited.
Mr Mustache worries for nothing and can't sleep...What is bothering him? When he finds out, things start to feel a lot better :-)
PS: I hope you will have as much pleasure as I did when I read this to Mila. Have a great day!

Fresh from Sweden....

We just received the Pirum Parum poster designed by Elisabeth Dunker from Fine Little Day...It's so cute, you just want to hug this little pear!
Her friend the Apple Papple is back too (we have one press sample available at 15% off here)

Nous venons juste de recevoir les posters Pirum Parum dessine par Elisabeth Dunker de Fine Little Day...C'est tellement mimi qu'on a juste envie de serrer cette petite poire dans nos bras!

DIY project: wooden headboard

For a while, I have been wanted to share with you how I double the height of a basic Malm bedframe by IKEA and and covered it up with grey linens to create a stylish, French-looking headboard for less than £60. Unfortunately the photos I took at the time are pathetic and needs work so in the meantime, I thought I would share this headboard done by House Tweaking. I love wood at home especially recycled wood so I think this one is a great way to make a statement in your bedroom and to create a modern, rustic look.

Alternatively, you can source an old French iron bed and use the top and bottom of the bed to create a headboard for two single beds which is what I did in Mila's bedroom, in our house in France (see below).

Another 14 (but good!) gifts ideas for kids

Yesterday, Julie from Kayatine sent us her new Mustache t-shirt for boys and Bow t-shirt for girls (trop cute!). As we've also received the Feather poster (the Meow one is almost gone!), I just thought I would compile a new selection of gifts for little people to include them.

1. White cotton dress 2.Mustache t-shirt 3. Doudou plush toy
4.
The Old Oak's Last Dream print 5. Apple rug 6. Bow t-shirt 7. Angel babygro
8.
Nelly print 9. Feather print 10. Royal Bird rocking chair
11. Mama's K aromatic modelling clay
12. Ball chair

I fell asleep amongst the flowers...

I love this photo...

Jolies poupees (dolls) de Happy To See You, stylism by Emma Cassi for the latest issue of Papier Mache and a gorgeous Paris map print in the background by Julie

Nael's bedroom in France

I'm not the only 'maman' to love the Friends of Violet poster....Look at Nael's bedroom (7 years old)....These photos were taken by Barbara Berrada, designer and photographer

Barbara B. has published a book a Butterfly in your house which looks like a wonderful collection of all the homes she has visited...I recommend you visit her blog, it has some cool shots of kids bedrooms

ByGraziela....retro love

Last year, I did a little housetour of Nina's gorgeous loft in London East end. Do you remember?
Well the good news is that we will more of her beautiful, creative home soon as Nina's home will be in the next book by Paumes (out this Summer). I can't wait to see the shots that Hisashi Tokuyoshi has taken. I'm sure it's going to be stunning and very inspiring!
In the meantime, here is a glance at the new ByGraziela goodies...
I love, love , love the ByGraziela 'you-can't-miss-me' bed linen for cots and single beds. They are loud (but we like that for kids), retro, colourful and to put it in a half-German way... uber cute. In fact, I'm pretty sure a lot of colours from the bed linen would work perfectly in Mila's bedroom and if is anything like the TRAIN bed linen set, the NEW 123 bed linen is going to be a hit....Nina and her mum, designer Graziela Preiser have also launched a cot bumper. I had one for Mila when she was a baby and they are a godsend...Not only it stops your baby to want to put her head through the bars like mine did but it also stops all her favourite toys and the infamous dummy to fall on the floor!

And finally the ByGraziela nighties and PJs are back in production..Yippee!
While I'm at it....the ABC poster will be back in stock around 11th....I think we have quite a big amount on back order but we will get enough to fulfill all the back orders and more so no panic.

Chez Nous: Mila's bedroom - UPDATE

I have to admit that the photoshoot with Paumes last Saturday gave me the ultimate boost needed to finish Mila's bedroom... After spending several weekends painting her walls and floorboards, my motivation to do more DIY was running low but hey....no matter how talented Hisashi Tokuyoshi is in seeing beauty in the most mundane things, I thought my masking tape around the ceiling wouldn't quite cut it!

So in an ultimate effort, I took the masking tape off, hang a couple of beautiful art prints et voila...!
I LOVE how the prints Mila and I choose together, look in her bedroom...The Friends of Violet poster by Studio Violet is my latest love. I have always been a fan of Camilla Engman and Elisabeth Dunker's work so I'm super happy to have this beautiful poster they designed together now on B&F (and now, we also have the Friends of Violet wallpaper!).
Elisabeth and Camilla have also designed some gorgeous postcards here that would look very nice framed individually and hang in a row.
My other 'coup de coeur' was this Nelly poster by Betsy Benn. Betsy's Quintessentially print is already a best-seller but my heart belongs to Nelly because I knew as soon as I saw it that it would be just perfect against Farrow & Ball Down Pipe paint I had in mind at the time. Both prints are super easy to frame as the Studio Violet design fits perfectly in a 50 x 70 cm picture frame from Ikea (I always use the RIBBA) and the Nelly print is a standard A2 format which most framing shops have in stock.

Like Sophie, I used these adorable Bird Clothes Pegs to display Mila's "masterpieces". I had the idea since I saw how one of our US customers used the bird pegs to display her wedding seating plan!

The more I look at these pictures, the more I'm pleased with how the soft and deep hues of greys used on a single wall and the shelves work beautifully against the rest of the room painted in white.
The room displays Mila's favourite toys and gifts which all have a little story to them like the yellow Apple we got from our last trip in Hong-Kong when we both went to explore Stanley market while Steve was working or the DREAM sign she broke, hide at the bottom of her basket under all her Doudous, which eventually I found months later and glued back, her latest present from me: the Doudou Superstar cushion, the vintage globe purchased at Columbia market, little gifts from Elodie and Lily she cherishes and Liberty cushions I made for her + one I brought back from my last trip to Paris.
I got the old Mickey on E-bay for my retro toys collection but lately everything I buy seems to end up in her space...The day after I bought a big rubber duck for my studio from the Paul Smith shop in Borough market, Steve found her sitting in the bathroom counting all her coins to see if she had enough to buy it from me. Her dad gave her £10, I 'sold' it to her at a loss but I ended up with a very happy little girl :-)
In the end, without too much pink, her room looks like a proper little girl room with cool pieces of design like the Norm 06 pendant light mixed with retro collectables robots and is so far, my favourite room in the house but if you are after more ideas on how to decorate a little girl's bedroom in pink and grey you may want to read this.

Birds clothes pegs in action....

I have to post this because Sophie from SKINFLINT DESIGN (one of my favourite websites for industrial/vintage lights by the way) managed to do what I have been planning to do in Mila's new bedroom for ages....Using our Bird clothes pegs to hang her children's artworks!

A couple of years ago, a customer from the US sent us some gorgeous images of her wedding where she used the Bird clothes pegs to display her sitting plan which looked amazing but I really like how cute the pegs look holding onto kids' precious drawings....and you have to admit that it's a lot more interesting and creative than using standard drawing pins :-)

Pink & Grey girl's bedrooms a la BODIE and FOU

At the beginning of March, I wrote how I didn't like pink for little girls' bedrooms but pink for grown-ups was ok.....
WELL....as I'm a very reflective person....I mean 'eventually' I'm a reflective person - because really, my first call of action is to do/write things first and then eventually think about it afterwards, rather than my other half who thinks everything first and then acts/decides upon his hours of reflection (I think his way is a bit boring if you ask me :-)

So a few weeks ago, I explained that pink in girl's bedroom was my pet hate. Well it's not exactly true!
The whole Princess/Barbie themed is my pet hate. With all the cheap, flimsy plastic things that come with Barbie and her mates, this makes me feel physically sick but pink and grey, like Bonpoint plays it beautifully in their shops is a different story.

In fact, I think if you mix soft hues of pink like this beautiful Penguin wallpaper in plum (which in fact is not really plum, more like a pale pink with a drop of blueberry), or this adorable Miss Doudou poster in hues of soft pink & yellow and add touches of grey with this Ball chair, then PINK & GREY are the definitive colours to use to create a beautiful and modern pink look for your girl's bedroom be she 4 or 14 years-old!

So here my suggestions for a cool, modern pink look version BODIE and FOU
And so you know...."Pink, pink you stink!" is something our Daughter Mila keeps saying even if it is her favourite colour !

Beautiful sketchbook by Giddy Giddy

Look at these gorgeous images of a little girl's bedroom found here. So cute!
I'm loving the old sewing machine and the Fischer Price little characters. I'm going to start Mila's bedroom this weekend and it will be a bit more modern with a grey feature wall. Yes I know...grey for a child bedroom.... but I'm French and trust me, it will look fab!
However, if you love the retro vibe, you will love the 70s collection of posters and bed linens ByGraziela. They were initially designed by German designer Graziela Preiser and were HUGE in the 1970s but recently Graziela's daughter: the lovely Nina, re-launched these iconic designs which are flying off our shelves.
But back to Giddy Giddy...so I was looking at these lovely, feel-good images and I could not help admiring the header of this page.

So I explored her lovely blog a bit further, check her shop to see if she was selling prints...nothing and then I saw these beautiful sketchbooks!

I think they are gorgeous and I hope the designer behind Giddy Giddy explores this avenue further and comes up with some beautiful prints for everyone to enjoy!

Funky Little Darlings wall stickers now at BODIE and FOU

I'm really excited today because we've just added the fabulous range of stickers from Funky Little Darlings to our collection and they all look fab!
Wall Stickers are a blessing when it comes to decorating a room. I mean all it takes is 2 min to open and peel the stickers and then you have a fabulous artwork on the wall in no time. I love the Funky Little Darlings collection because they really capture the world of children while being contemporary.
I'm pretty sure the Dinosaurus Rock wall stickers are going to be a hit with boys. We've received some fantastic feedback on the Dya-Think-E-Saurus wallpaper but if you are renting, wall stickers are easier to handle than wallpaper.

Really loving the Doudou cushion Superstar....

Last September, I introduced Kayatine which is a new brand of gorgeous gifts for babies and toddlers launched by Julie Lepage-Chartier and her mum.
Julie and I have been in touch a lot recently because we are getting a lot of interest for all her Doudous. She was very happy when I told her we got Doudou Lila featured in a German magazine and she said that she recently got an order for 100 Doudous for a shop in Ireland - isn't fantastic after such a short time!! I'm thrilled for her but I know that Julie is working really hard so it's well deserved!
But today I want to show you the Doudou cushions she made...I'm absolutely loving these two Doudou Superstar red and Doudou Superstar yellow. Look at them!! Aren't they adorable??!
The Doudou cushions are made to order in France so delivery times will be about 2 weeks so if you want one...give yourself plenty of time to ensure your receive in time for Christmas!

Introducing Kayatine.....

Kayatine is a new label launched by the young (only 24) and obviously very talented French designer Julie Lepage-Chartier.
In France, 'un Doudou' is what we call the first soft toy, a baby will take a fancy to and this a toy that your child is likely to keep forever so choosing the perfect Doudou is no mean feat!
The first time we saw Julie's 'Doudous', we felt in love straight away...I mean look at this one called Poppy. Even if you haven't got a child, wouldn't you want something as cute and friendly in your home! I love it!

Doudou Poppy is one of eight brothers and sisters. Each one has little ears that are easy for tiny baby hands to grab (or suck as babies do!). Its bottom is embroidered with a cure little heart and the fabrics Julie has picked (for instance for Doudou Bobi) are just beautiful and cheerful.

Poppy is also available in violette here.

The photo of Doudou Kiou does not any justice to the amazing, soft white fabric Julie selected but I promise you it is one very soft doudou which makes a perfect present for a new-born baby along with our best-selling Angel babygro in white or pink here.

We will add more gorgeous designs from Kayatine in the forthcoming months as Julie has also designed uber cute babygros and bath set for babies and I can't wait for her to do her Doudou as cushions!
For more inspiration on how to create gorgeous children bedrooms, check out the amazing collection of Japanese books from Paumes.

Exciting news about Papier Mache magazine

Last night I spoke to Beck from Papier Mache who told me she is also a fan of BODIE and FOU (which is always nice to hear :-) and frankly talking about something as exciting as this wonderful children magazine is really not good for my sleeping pattern. It was midnight for me and probably about lunch time for Beck and I was jumping up and down with excitement.
I told Beck that Papier Mache reminded me of MILK magazine, a French magazine which is probably one of the most amazing and inspiring children magazines and she said that MILK was like gold in Australia. If you love MILK magazine and find it tricky to get a copy in your country, you can get a subscription to MILK from here or buy their special issues.

Anyway the next issue of Papier Mache will be on 14th November 2009 and maybe in the future they will produce more issues, a printed version etc...it all depends how it goes but I'm pretty sure it will go very nicely for them... I can't wait for Issue no 2 and if I could at least print the online version to read it bed that would make me really happy....
But here is the EXCITING NEWS!... For Issue no 2, they have decided to add a supplement magazine with great kids rooms and are looking for submissions.
Yes you've read this properly.... If if you think your kids room look fabulous and you want it to be featured in Papier Mache, send your photos to hello@papier-mache.com.au

Deadline for submissions is late October so you've got a bit of time but if you want your child's bedroom to be featured in a cool, aussie magazine...here is your chance!
